Often these entries include a reflection on a Psalm or Bible passage to give words to her feelings. Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine has not ended and Ira continues to write her daily entries to this day.
Why Tulips?
Together with Ira, we at Envision Berlin have selected entries from the first year of the full-scale war. Using the life cycle of a tulip as a metaphor for the varied experiences of the war, Ira takes the reader on seven journeys through the themes of hope, survival, loss, defiance, and resilience.
About the Author
Iryna ‘Ira’ Kapitonova lives in Kyiv. She has a husband and son, teaches 3rd and 4th grade English, and in case you haven’t watched the video above yet, she also really loves books. In fact, she loves them so much that she became a literary translator of books from English into Ukrainian in order to bring good books to her people. However, she’s admitted to us that this was also a step toward some day becoming an author as well.
Ira has qualifications in international economics and translation from the National Aviation University (Kyiv, Ukraine). She has also taken literary and non-fiction translation courses (October 2021, May 2022, and August 2022).
